I thought it might be nice to share a little more about why I started my business.
I have been dreaming of owning my own business for as long as I can remember to be honest. When I was little I used to say I would be doing a different job each day of the week. Lollipop lady on a Monday, sweet shop owner on a Tuesday and so on. (I gave myself Sunday's off) so it seems fitting that I still want to do everything now. I get an idea and I want to do it immediately.
But, with this business, what made me decide to take the plunge was the desire to create beautiful cards, artwork and more that didn't mean chopping trees down to do so. Why does art need to be printed on brand new paper, when there is great eco friendly, recycled alternatives out there!
And greetings cards, well we all know they sit on someones shelf for a couple of weeks maximum, then end up mostly in the bin. (Unless you're a crafter like my family! So much can be done with cards) It is lovely to let someone know you are thinking of them with a card. Sometimes the card is more important than a gift. But that being said, its a bit of folded paper at the end of the day. Why cut down trees and create more waste when we really don't need to? So I made it my mission to have all my cards printed on recycled card and use no finishing techniques (such as foiling for example) that would stop the card being popped in your recycling bin when you are finished admiring it.
Being planet friendly/eco friendly/sustainable, whatever you want to call it, is important to me as a person. So its the logical step to create a business based around this value! No? Well, it was for me anyway
What is an important step you took to become more eco friendly? Perhaps you decided to shop more at your local no waste shop, or you mended a piece of clothing instead of throwing it away. Even simple things such as not rushing to get a new phone as soon as your contract ends can help. One less phone in the landfill!
